The output power of a UPS system describes the active electrical power that the system can deliver to the connected loads either continuously or as part of a temporary overload. This is the sum of the power components from the fundamental oscillation and harmonics that can actually be used for the operation of electrical devices.

Technical specifications for output power generally include

  • Active power (in W or kW)
  • Apparent power (in VA or kVA)
  • Power factor (PF) - typically ≥ 0.9

A high power factor means that a large proportion of the energy consumed is effectively converted into usable power. Modern UPS systems offer power factors of up to 1.0, which indicates high energy efficiency and better utilization of the available capacity.
