Distortion factor

The distortion factor is a measure of the distortion of the current or voltage wave compared to an ideal sine wave. It is calculated as the quotient between the RMS value of the fundamental of the current or voltage and the RMS value of the entire current or voltage. The distortion factor therefore indicates how strongly the harmonics (harmonic distortions) are represented in an electrical signal.
