Crest factor
The crest factor, also known as the crest factor, describes the ratio between the peak value (Imax) and the effective value (Ieff) of an alternating current. Expressed mathematically:
Crest factor = Imax / Ieff
In practice, the crest factor is an important parameter for UPS systems, as it provides information on how well a UPS can handle non-linear loads - i.e. devices that generate very high current peaks in the short term, such as servers, switching power supplies or medical devices.
